Cheshire East electoral wards redrawn for May 2027 polls

Cheshire East’s electoral map will change for the next borough elections after the Local Government Boundary Commission for England confirmed the Cheshire East (Electoral Changes) Order 2026. The Order was made on 19 January 2026 following completion of the objection period, giving legal effect to the Commission’s May 2025 final recommendations. (lgbce.org.uk)

From May 2027, the council will be elected by 82 councillors from 47 wards. The pattern comprises 19 single‑member, 21 two‑member and seven three‑member wards, with boundaries revised across most areas. (lgbce.org.uk)

For borough elections, the Order abolishes the existing wards and replaces them with the 47 wards named in Schedule 1, with councillor numbers set per ward. Provisions for steps “preliminary or relating to the election of councillors” take effect on 15 October 2026; for all other purposes the new arrangements apply at the 2027 ordinary election day, which falls on 6 May 2027. Parish electoral arrangements are also updated to align with the new map. Parish wards are re‑drawn for Bollington, Congleton, Crewe, Hulme Walfield & Somerford Booths, Nantwich, Sandbach, Wilmslow and Wistaston. In addition, Brereton and Over Alderley move to a warded structure, each with two parish wards defined on the Order map; councillor numbers for each parish ward are set in the Schedules. The Commission has published the map referred to in the Order. Election teams, parties and agents should work from these geographies when preparing nomination papers, polling documentation and count logistics for 2027. (lgbce.org.uk)

For residents, the practical change is that some addresses will be in different borough or parish wards than before. Polling places will be reviewed and may change, but the council will still return 82 borough councillors. Cheshire East Council has signalled a detailed review of polling districts, places and stations following the boundary review. (lgbce.org.uk)

Consultation informed the final pattern. The Commission recorded 329 responses and confirmed a three‑member Knutsford and a largely unchanged Tytherington ward in Macclesfield, subject to a minor adjustment, to reflect local evidence. (cheshireeast.gov.uk)

Procedurally, the draft Order was laid on 13 November 2025 under the draft negative procedure, was not drawn to the special attention of the scrutiny committees, and its objection period ended on 8 January 2026. The Commission then made the Order on 19 January 2026. (statutoryinstruments.parliament.uk)
