For the area, the announcement signals progress rather than closure. According to the government statement, the remediation programme began in May 2026 and was planned to run for four months. The work has involved injecting grout and gravel into the former mine workings below the site, with the aim of filling voids, improving support and reducing the risk of further movement. That method sits within a staged public safety response. The Authority said a full picture of underground conditions had to be established before intervention could begin, which explains why the remediation followed investigation rather than immediate large-scale repair.

The latest monitoring evidence is central to the Authority’s assessment of the site. It said slow, ongoing movement had been identified within the fenced-off area where the demolished properties previously stood, but that no movement has been detected beyond that zone outside normal seasonal variation. For residents and local agencies, that is the most material finding in the update. It suggests the instability remains confined to the already restricted area, while also explaining why reassurance is being tied to measured ground data rather than to construction progress alone.

Responsibility for the technical response rests with the Mining Remediation Authority, which has led the investigation, the stabilisation works and the community communications. Project manager Ross Martin said the case had carried a clear sense of responsibility because of the disruption caused in a close-knit community, and that the response had been built around careful investigation and open communication. The immediate effects fall on housing, access and local amenities, but the underground remediation itself depends on specialist surveying, engineering design and extended monitoring.

The government statement says monitoring of Dewar Avenue, the community centre and the surrounding area will continue until at least spring 2027. In practical terms, that means near-completion of the grouting phase does not amount to a final sign-off. The next stage is continued observation, with monitoring results intended to guide decisions on the site’s longer-term future. That matters for residents because the position remains mixed. The absence of detected movement outside the fenced-off area offers reassurance, but the continued monitoring period makes clear that public bodies are not yet treating the location as a concluded case.
